What we're learning Autumn 2022

Our theme this term is the Sermon on the Mount, and specifically the part known as the “Beatitudes”!

The sermon on the Mount is Jesus’ most famous sermon and can be found in the Bible in Matthew. We’ll be thinking about what it means when Jesus says to the crowd,

“YOU are the light of the world, a city on a hill cannot be hidden”

We will be looking at the “Blessed be” verses, also known as the Beatitudes.

These verses are challenging, inspiring and key for understanding what it means to be a Christian, what it means to be a church and how we can make a difference, as individuals and as a group, in the world we live in.

It’s a fantastic part of the Bible. If you’d like to read more around it (we really recommend this - great for conversations with kids and for your own heart and soul!) we can recommend this blog by Glen Scrivener or this book by Richard Rohr

You can see exactly what we’re doing each week - games, stories, activities - by clicking this link. We do try to offer a range of activities that are accessible for our wide range of ages and needs but let us know if you have any suggestions for us for how we can make our group times more accessible

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Registration and collection - Don’t forget to collect your peg on your way into church so we can register your child and if your details have changed please let us know Please accompany your child to the Message and collect them afterwards. We are strict about this as while the church grounds are lovely we do sadly have issues with antisocial behaviour. Also, please don’t leave the building (church) while the message is going on. If there is a problem we need to be able to come and get you quickly.

Age groups - We’ve been asked what age the Message is for. Broadly speaking, it’s for Reception to Year 6. However, we often have younger children with their parents and if they want to be there we’re happy to have them. With older children, again if they want to engage or help out, then we are more than happy to have them. If they are finding it less interesting as they get older, it may be better for them to be in the main service.   You are completely welcome to stay with your child during the message. We kindly request that only one parent stay, (otherwise we get very crowded!) and that you help your child join in with the group.

Helping at the Message - We are always looking for extra helpers! Each Sunday we have 4 roles: leader, Co leader, Door Monitor, SEN assistant. If you’d like to help in any of those roles, please contact us - we’d be really happy to hear from you
