The Maundy Thursday service is a poignant time to dwell on Jesus serving his disciples before his crucifixion and the world by his crucifixion.
The service includes the chance to replay Jesus washing his disciples feet. This is not compulsory though! After communion the service ends with silence and people may either leave or stay to pray. The church will remain open until midnight on Good Friday for prayer with readings from John's gospel on the hour.
'Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.'
